Microsoft is working on a permanent fix for a known issue causing Microsoft Teams and the new Outlook for Windows to fail to launch or close unexpectedly on ARM-based devices.
The problem affects devices such as Surface Pro 11 and Surface Laptop 7 running Windows 11 24H2 or later after installing Windows security updates released on or after August 11, 2026, including KB5121003. It mainly affects new or freshly imaged PCs that have not yet installed Microsoft Store updates.
Microsoft said Classic Outlook, Word, Excel, and other applications are not known to be affected. The company has not disclosed the root cause.
As a temporary workaround, Microsoft told affected customers to open the Microsoft Store, select Downloads > Check for updates, and install Auto Super Resolution Package version 1.0.19.0 or later. Microsoft says the package allows Copilot+ PCs to use AI to make supported games play more smoothly with enhanced details.
A permanent fix will be released in a future Windows update. The issue is the latest in a series of problems linked to Windows updates released in August, including reported printing, PDF export, gaming, and Microsoft Defender Antivirus alert issues.
