Anthropic reports fewer junior technical employees and more meeting time

Anthropic says its workforce and work patterns have changed over the past year, according to a report the AI company published on Friday. The report describes the company’s experience as a possible indicator of how AI could affect work organization, hiring and labor demand, while noting that Anthropic has built its workflows extensively around AI.

The share of junior employees in technical departments fell from 21% to 14% since early 2025. Junior hires in technical roles fell from 27% to 9%. Technical teams also made up a smaller share of Anthropic’s workforce, declining from 61% to 56%. The company attributed that change to the expansion of business functions as it grows and to coding tools that let non-technical employees make software.

In an April 2026 employee survey, 27% said Claude had made them more productive, while 20% said their work had shifted toward managing Claude systems. The report says employees face a growing volume of AI-generated text to review and organize, making human attention and judgment a constraint. Anthropic also reported more code per person, more sales closed per representative and more contracts processed, while cautioning that more code does not necessarily mean better code or business impact. It said it had not found signs of declining code quality.

Calendar data showed meeting time per employee was up 20% from a year earlier, including a 16% rise for technical contributors. Anthropic linked the increase to the importance of trust, accountability and in-person coordination.
