Micron is developing Edge Inference Memory (EIM), a memory technology intended to combine the low power use of LPDDR with the low latency and high bandwidth of HBM, according to a report by Wccftech.
The report says EIM could support a shift from generative AI toward physical AI, including humanoid robots that make decisions based on proactive behavior. It presents that prospect as a possible future use, not a confirmed product deployment.
Commercialization may happen as soon as 2028, the report says. EIM could also be adopted in LPDDR6 memory. The source does not provide a confirmed launch date or details on which products might use the technology.
The reported power-efficiency goal could be relevant to AI-powered robots, which might otherwise use stacked HBM. However, the source does not give power figures or quantify any expected savings. Micron's EIM is described as combining memory characteristics associated with LPDDR and HBM; the report does not establish that it will replace HBM.
