Wccftech reports that an NVIDIA RTX 5090 Founders Edition owner says the company rejected his warranty claim after the serial number on the GPU had faded.
The Reddit user, Willing-Avocado-4830, described the case in a thread on r/NVIDIA. According to the post, the GPU is nearly one year old and was bought directly from NVIDIA.
The owner says NVIDIA rejected the RMA claim without providing any reasons. He also claims that he still owns the original box, which carries the GPU’s serial number.
Wccftech says this is the first report of this type it has covered, while noting that multiple users have reported faded serial numbers on their GPUs. The publication characterized the incident as not rare, but the available report does not establish how widespread the defect is.
The account concerns one owner’s report and the response he says he received from NVIDIA. It does not confirm the cause of the fading, whether the affected GPUs share another condition, or how NVIDIA handles every RMA request involving an unclear serial number.
