Nearly Half of Workers Exaggerate Their AI Use at Work

A report from Visier says 48% of employees have exaggerated their use of or expertise in AI to colleagues or managers some or most of the time. Nearly as many, 45%, say they feel pressured to use AI at work.

The findings come as 54% of workers say AI has significantly changed their roles over the past two years. Yet 32% say their employer has no clear AI plan, while 27% are unsure whether their employer has one at all. Only one-third believe their leaders understand how much AI training and support workers need.

Just 21% would strongly agree that their employer provides enough training and support. Workers most often called for more upskilling opportunities (32%), followed closely by greater transparency (31%). Another 24% called for more career advancement opportunities, and 18% wanted clearer communication about how AI could affect them. Job loss was the most frequently identified concern, cited by 24%.

“People told us that they actually want to be equipped and informed, not shielded or protected from AI-driven change,” said Dr Andrea Derler, Research and Customer Value Principal. The report urges businesses to prioritize training and transparency to build worker trust and achieve the productivity gains they seek.
