WhatsApp lets users invite non-users to events

WhatsApp is rolling out a feature that lets users invite friends and family to events even if they do not have the messaging app installed. Event organizers can share a link, and recipients without WhatsApp can view the event details.

A new Events Home hub lets users create and send invitations, manage RSVPs, send custom reminders, and give guests the option to bring a plus-one. Users can find a list of past and upcoming events by opening Settings and selecting Events.

WhatsApp says it will not show a user's phone number to guests they do not know. Invitees without WhatsApp will see the event address only after they RSVP.

The features are rolling out to all users in the coming weeks. The update could make WhatsApp an alternative to event-planning services such as Facebook. Partiful and Apple Invites also let users invite people who do not use their apps, while some event-planning services require an iPhone or a separate app download.
