Tesla says second-generation Roadster will be unveiled on October 1

Tesla says it will unveil the second-generation Roadster on October 1, potentially ending a long wait for the electric sports car.

The company posted “Go for launch” on X on Saturday alongside a graphic displaying “10.01.” The image also appears to hint at the promised cold gas thrusters, developed by Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s other company, SpaceX. Tesla has said the optional thrusters could allow the Roadster to fly in some way.

Tesla first announced the second-generation sports car in November 2017, but the vehicle has been delayed multiple times. The Roadster also became part of a social media dispute between Musk and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman last year. Altman said that “7.5 years has felt like a long time to wait” after paying a $50,000 reservation fee, while Musk said Altman had received a refund.

The Information recently reported that Tesla had completely abandoned the 2017 version for a new design that had yet to be revealed and was expected to be shown imminently. Musk has previously said that even after the reveal, the Roadster would not enter production for another 12 or 18 months.
