A Ryzen 9 9950X3D reportedly suffered a catastrophic failure after working for just 1 hour in an ASUS CROSSHAIR X670E Hero motherboard.
The user had replaced an older Ryzen 5 8500G while seeking more gaming and compute performance. Instead of booting Windows 11, the system failed to start. The user says selecting a RAM setting in BIOS triggered code.
Inspection reportedly found two brown marks on the Ryzen 9 9950X3D. The same ASUS CROSSHAIR X670E Hero had also stopped working with the older Ryzen 5 8500G after it was installed, leaving two CPUs affected.
The Reddit account, identified as “SpecialistConcept423,” says no manual overclock was applied. The supplied account does not establish a confirmed root cause for the failures.
