Replit CEO Amjad Masad describes a “self-driving company”

Replit CEO and co-founder Amjad Masad says AI agents are changing how his company works, while people remain responsible for judgment and creative decisions.

Speaking at TechCrunch Disrupt in San Francisco, Masad described his vision of a “self-driving company.” He said agents now handle much of the work at Replit, which makes AI coding tools. He was referring to workplace tasks, not companies that make robotaxis.

Masad said Replit agents initially review incoming support requests by checking GitHub issues, the codebase and Linear tickets. When a request reaches a support worker, that person has more information to decide what to do. If they choose to submit a fix, they can deploy another agent to help apply it.

He said agents do most of the work in that process, but human judgment remains central. In his view, the change is shifting people’s work toward deciding what to build, discussing ideas and planning architecture, rather than simply eliminating jobs.

Masad said Replit’s conversations with other businesses increasingly focus on how AI might help people become more productive and happier at work. He suggested agents could make work less boring and more creative, while describing the broader future as something companies are still trying to understand.
