Reddit to End RSS Support and Public API Access by March 2027

Reddit says it will end support for RSS feeds on November 13 and public API access by March 2027. The company announced the changes on Wednesday as part of a set of updates for moderators and developers.

Reddit described RSS as a “common surface for large-scale scraping and automated abuse.” It also said the shutdown reflects concerns about abusive scraping and automated traffic. RSS lets users and applications receive website updates in a standardized format.

The public API change will affect tools that access Reddit conversations programmatically, including social listening products, research tools and AI products. Reddit said AI assistants that use Reddit to answer questions will need commercial data deals with the company after public API access ends.

For moderators who use RSS alerts, Reddit recommends moving to the Discord Relay Devvit app and reviewing their workflows before November 13. The company said it has no replacement for RSS feeds used outside moderators’ communities.

Reddit also said its “other revenue,” beyond advertising, grew 24% year over year to $43 million in the second quarter. Separately, the company said it will limit Old Reddit access for logged-in users to people who have used it in the previous 90 days. Developers of approved third-party apps and bots must register by January 12, 2027, to avoid losing API access.
