AI Leaders Praise Trump’s Self-Regulation Safety Pledge

Six technology executives praised a voluntary AI safety pledge after a White House event hosted by President Donald Trump. The agreement, called the Joint Commitment on Frontier Responsibilities, asks companies to regulate their own AI systems using shared guidelines. The source describes it as “morally binding” and says it appears to carry no consequences for violations.

The signatories are Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, OpenAI president Greg Brockman, xAI CEO Elon Musk and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang. Each spoke at Trump’s request and described the pledge as a step toward advancing AI, creating jobs and addressing public concerns about safety.

Zuckerberg called the agreement a starting point for the industry. Brockman said AI could benefit people through areas including scientific research and drug development. Huang argued that innovation and safety can advance together, while saying the industry is developing technology for both purposes. Pichai said companies must address risks and deliver products safely.

Musk said AI could bring an “age of abundance” and better medical care, while acknowledging that jobs will change. Amodei said AI has significant benefits as well as real risks, and that how to address those risks remains under discussion.

Trump said the executives would watch over one another instead of introducing federal AI regulations. He also said his earlier characterization of AI safety concerns as a “hoax” no longer applied after he renamed the technology “Super Intelligence.”
