Nyrius launches lower-cost Phoenix Prime 4K30 wireless HDMI kit

Nyrius has launched the Phoenix Prime 4K30, a more affordable wireless HDMI kit for sending video to a television or projector without a cable. TechRadar reports that it costs $99.99, £83.21, or about AU$144—half the price of the more expensive Nyrius model.

The kit comes in HDMI-to-HDMI and USB-C-to-HDMI versions. The USB-C version requires a port with DisplayPort Alt Mode. Both versions support resolutions up to 4K and can transmit up to 50ft (15.2m) through walls, floors, and ceilings. With no obstacles, the stated range is 150ft (45.7m). The system uses frequencies from 5.1 to 5.8GHz and switches automatically among 9 channels.

Those lower costs come with limits. The Phoenix Prime 4K30 runs at 30fps and does not support Dolby Atmos, DTS, or HDR. TechRadar contrasts it with the more expensive Home model, which supports up to 60fps and 7.1-channel audio, as well as Dolby Atmos, DTS, and HDR. TechRadar also reports 90ms of latency for both models and says the kit is not the best option for gaming.

TechRadar says the kit is available through Nyrius.com and Amazon. It may suit setups where a traditional cable is impractical, including presentations and showing video on projectors, but the publication notes its picture-quality and audio limitations.
