HP Survey Finds AI Is Creating Jobs at UK Businesses

A new HP survey suggests that artificial intelligence is creating jobs in UK businesses, even as some workers remain concerned about being replaced.

The survey covered nearly 20,000 desk-based workers globally. Nearly half of British respondents (46%) said AI had positively affected their lives, while 52% said they used AI tools provided by their employers daily or weekly, up from 38% last year.

Three in five UK business leaders said AI adoption had created new roles or entire teams in their organizations. Another 19% expect AI to create roles over the next one to two years. By contrast, 10% said AI was primarily replacing or reducing roles.

The reported job-creation figures were similar globally: 59% of business leaders and 62% of IT decision-makers said AI had created jobs. In the UK, 45% of desk-based workers said they used agentic AI systems. Use varied by seniority: 38% of knowledge workers used agents, compared with 56% of business leaders and 71% of IT decision-makers.

HP UK&I managing director Ruth Patterson said businesses should invest in the skills, tools and development people need to adapt. The survey also found continued concern among UK knowledge workers: 38% worried AI could replace them, and 37% worried they could be replaced by someone with greater AI knowledge.
