Google’s Universal Cart launches in the US

Google says Universal Cart, a shopping tool for collecting and tracking products, is now available to users in the United States. The company announced the launch on Thursday. It first previewed the tool at Google I/O in May.

Users can save products they find in Google Search and the Gemini app, then return to their cart and pick up where they left off. The cart can collect items from multiple retailers, and Google says it can help users track deals and availability.

Universal Cart can notify users when a saved product’s price drops or an out-of-stock item becomes available again. Google says the tool can also consider credit card perks when helping users choose how to pay and surface relevant promo codes.

Checkout uses Google’s Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP), an open standard the company introduced earlier this year. UCP is designed to help AI agents and retailers work together across shopping tasks, including checkout.

The launch adds to Google’s AI shopping efforts, which include conversational product discovery in Search’s AI Mode and the “Let Google Call” tool for contacting nearby stores to check stock. Amazon, OpenAI and other companies have also added agentic commerce features.
