Google is entering the creative design market with Google Pics, an image creation and editing tool built around prompting rather than designing from scratch.
Google Pics will become part of Google Workspace for business customers and will also be available to subscribers of Google AI Pro or Ultra. Powered by Google’s Nano Banana image generation model, the tool is scheduled to roll out over the coming weeks to most Workspace customers and eligible subscribers.
Like Adobe Express and Canva, Google Pics is aimed at everyday design tasks, including creating posters, social media posts, visuals, and illustrations. However, its AI-first approach differs from Canva’s marketplace, where artists, illustrators, and photographers can publish creative work and earn royalties. Google says its model was trained on artists’ work.
The app includes tools for isolating and transforming objects, modifying or translating text inside images, and creating several generations of a requested image so users can choose one. It also supports collaborative editing.
Google Pics is being built into Google Workspace, initially launching with Docs and Slides today. Google says it will later come to Google Drive.
