Gartner report: Just 3% of organizations meet AI productivity and savings goals

A Gartner report found that just 3% of organizations have met their targets for productivity and efficiency gains, as well as cost cuts, from using AI, according to TechRadar. The report’s findings suggest that widespread workplace AI use has yet to deliver the results many companies expected.

Three quarters of leaders expect AI to have a significant effect on their organizations. At the same time, 85% plan to spend more on AI in 2027, while 38% are already over budget.

“Ultimately, organizations will not generate cost savings from AI at this point,” CV Viverito, a senior director analyst in Gartner’s HR practice, told attendees at Gartner’s HR Symposium. Viverito said a greater opportunity lies in using AI for tasks that were not previously possible, and redirecting employees’ time toward new capabilities, outcomes and sources of growth.

Gartner also advised businesses to focus AI efforts where they can make a tangible difference and to spread AI knowledge across their organizations. Viverito said organizations are redesigning work and creating capacity, but are struggling to make that capacity usable and direct it toward valuable work.

The report joins other recent calls for caution about AI’s benefits for businesses. TechRadar’s summary also cites an unnamed economist who warned that, despite large investments and widespread hype, AI has delivered “zero financial payoff” to corporate America outside the technology sector.
