Beehiiv raises prices as creators question the value

Beehiiv is raising prices for paid plans, prompting some creators to reconsider the newsletter platform. Co-founder and CEO Tyler Denk said the changes will let the company “continue investing in our core platform experience.”

The mid-tier Scale plan is being renamed Lite. Its price has increased by at least $10 per month, depending on subscriber count. For accounts with up to 10,000 subscribers, the monthly price is now $139, up from $109. The Pro plan, previously called Max, will cost $239 a month for up to 10,000 subscribers, compared with $219 before. Creators with fewer than 2,500 subscribers can still use Beehiiv for free.

Some creators have criticized the changes. Freelance journalist Tim Stevens, writing on Bluesky, said ad rates and sponsor choices had declined since he switched to Beehiiv earlier this year. He also said the platform was raising fees by 25%. Matt Lombardo, who moved his NFL news site Between the Hashmarks from Substack to Beehiiv, said on Threads that the price increase was frustrating while video podcasts, consistent on-platform growth, and podcast ads were still unavailable.

Extra Points creator Matt Brown wrote on Reddit that Beehiiv remained a “steal” compared with Substack, which takes 10 percent of subscription revenue, but said the higher prices may not work for many publishers, particularly those without paid subscriptions. Beehiiv also offers an integrated ad network, website personalization, podcast creation tools, and a feature for adding communities to websites. Denk said it was the second pricing update in the company’s nearly five-year history.
