TikTok explores up to 4 GW of computing capacity by the early 2030s

TikTok is exploring options to secure up to 4 gigawatts of computing capacity by the early 2030s, according to a report by CNBC citing two sources familiar with the discussions. The capacity has not been secured through disclosed agreements, and potential suppliers have not been named.

The company said Oracle will remain its primary cloud infrastructure provider in the United States. A TikTok spokesperson said: “Oracle will continue to be our primary cloud infrastructure provider.” TikTok did not say whether it would obtain additional capacity from other providers.

The reported expansion comes as TikTok’s U.S. business recruits specialists in machine learning and advanced AI models, including for a commercial offering involving model inference and automated content creation. The company has not linked those projects to the reported capacity requirement.

TikTok USDS Joint Venture was established in 2026 after an executive order from President Donald Trump required changes to ByteDance’s U.S. ownership arrangements. ByteDance retained 19.9% of the venture, while Oracle, Silver Lake and MGX each took a 15% stake. Michael Dell’s family investment office also joined the ownership arrangement.

In January, TikTok said its recommendation algorithm would be trained and evaluated domestically using information collected from U.S. users. Oracle was designated to host the algorithm in its U.S. cloud infrastructure. TikTok has not specified whether the potential 4-gigawatt expansion would support the algorithm, commercial AI development or other needs.
