Google says AI investments are driving more searches

Alphabet says its investments in artificial intelligence are driving growth in Google Search queries, including commercial searches. CEO Sundar Pichai said in a statement that the year-over-year growth rate in queries was the highest in five years.

Alphabet reported consolidated revenue of $127.6 billion for the quarter, up 25 percent year over year. Revenue from “Google Search & other” rose 12 percent year over year. Google Cloud revenue increased 103 percent year over year to $30.7 billion.

The results follow a busy quarter for Google. The company announced its Gemini 4 Argon model and said it had passed 1 billion monthly Gemini users. It also revealed its first five Googlebook laptops, raised the price of the Google TV Streamer, renamed NotebookLM to Gemini Notebook, and launched the Pixel 11 smartphone line and a new Pixel Watch. The Pixel Tag is forthcoming. The quarter also included a shakeup of Google’s AI leadership, with former DeepMind leader Demis Hassabis moving into a chair role.
