A live photograph of Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro has offered a closer look at the flagship mobile chipset’s design.
The pictured chipset die appears significantly larger than the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. The difference may be linked to a new cooling approach intended to cool the DRAM more effectively.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro is expected to use a Heat Pass Block, a solution similar to one associated with Samsung’s Exynos 2600. The implementation is part of a broader change in how the chipset is packaged and cooled.
The traditional PoP (Package-on-Package) implementation is expected to be retired with the arrival of the new Snapdragon. The larger die and revised thermal design suggest that Qualcomm is giving cooling a higher priority in this generation, although the photograph does not establish real-world performance.
