Shark launches FlexStyle IonCurl with stronger curling airflow

Shark has launched the FlexStyle IonCurl, a multi-function hair styler that the company positions as a more affordable alternative to the Dyson Airwrap. TechRadar’s Cat Ellis reports that the new model adds ionic technology intended to reduce static buildup and frizz.

The IonCurl uses Coanda airflow to wrap hair around a curler. Shark says its airflow is stronger than that of the original FlexStyle, helping hair wrap more firmly during styling. A new AirSet button lets users pause the airflow or release a pulse of cold air to help set curls.

The styler also has a Scalp Shield mode that activates automatically to control temperature when drying hair near the scalp. TechRadar says the feature is similar to Scalp Protect mode on the Dyson Supersonic Nural hair dryer.

Shark is offering two versions. The four-in-one model includes two 32mm Coanda curlers, a FrizzFighter high shine polisher, an oval brush and a styling concentrator nozzle. The five-in-one version adds two curlers with a smaller diameter.

TechRadar describes the original FlexStyle as versatile, with strong drying performance and a range of attachments, citing its own review. The publication says it has yet to test the IonCurl and plans to publish a full review. Its performance and value have therefore not been assessed in that review.
