Google launched its screen-free Fitbit Air fitness tracker in India on Wednesday, pricing it at ₹13,999, or about $146. That is about $47 more than the device’s $99 U.S. price.
Unveiled in May, Fitbit Air tracks health and fitness metrics including 24/7 heart rate, heart rhythm with A-fib alerts, blood oxygen, resting heart rate, heart rate variability, sleep stages and sleep duration. It has no screen, a design aimed at people seeking health trackers without the distractions of a display.
Screen-free wearables also include products from Garmin, Luffu Link and Indian brands Noise and Urban. IDC has reported that these trackers are finding a niche despite declining wristband shipments. Counterpoint Research says India accounts for 5% of the screen-free wearable market. TechCrunch reported that the premium price could limit Fitbit Air’s effect on the broader market.
The tracker will be available from October 2 through the Google Store and retail partners Flipkart, Croma, Reliance Digital and Vijay Sales. Google is including a three-month Google Health premium membership with the band.
