Xiaomi 18 Fold brings a shorter, wider rival to Galaxy Z Fold 8

Xiaomi has launched the Xiaomi 18 Fold, a shorter and wider foldable that resembles the Galaxy Z Fold 8. The device has a 5.38-inch cover display and a 7.58-inch inner display, with both screens using a 1.4:1 aspect ratio. It has two rounded corners when closed and four when open.

At IFA 2026, TechRadar’s Ruth Hamilton found the Xiaomi 18 Fold slightly shorter and wider than Samsung’s latest foldable. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 has 5.5-inch and 7.6-inch screens with 10:16 and 4:3 aspect ratios. The Xiaomi model measures 10.68mm and weighs 219g when closed, then measures 5.02mm when open. The Galaxy measures 9.7mm and 4.5mm and weighs 201g.

The Xiaomi 18 Fold’s 1.4:1 ratio is close to IMAX’s 1.43:1 ratio and may suit video presented in 16:9. Its camera bar has three Leica-optimized cameras: a 200MP main camera, a 50MP ultra-wide camera and a 50MP telephoto camera with 3.5x optical zoom. The phone uses the Xring O3 chip, a 6,000mAh battery and up to 16GB of RAM.

The foldable launches only in China, starting at ¥10,999. That is around $1,650, £1,220 or AU$2,275 overseas, compared with the Galaxy Z Fold 8’s $1,899, £1,699 or AU$2,699 starting prices. Apple’s rumored iPhone Ultra is expected to have 5.3- to 5.49-inch and 7.7- to 7.8-inch displays, with a 4:3 unfolded ratio. Apple’s “Surprise and Shine” event begins on September 9.
