Wonder files confidentially for an IPO as it expands its food business

Food delivery startup Wonder has confidentially filed for an initial public offering (IPO), moving closer to becoming a publicly traded company. Founded in 2018 by Marc Lore, the company has grown from a delivery concept into a food technology business.

Wonder operates food hall-style locations where customers can order from multiple restaurant brands through one platform. The company handles meal preparation, delivery, pickup and dine-in service. It has not disclosed how many shares it plans to offer or an expected price range.

In July, Wonder said it raised more than $650 million in a funding round that valued the company at around $9 billion. Investors include Accel, GV, AllianceBernstein and ARK Invest. Wonder aims to open more than 100 locations in Texas by the end of 2027. It has also acquired Blue Apron, Grubhub, Tastemade and kitchen robotics company Spyce.

Wonder Create, its platform for food entrepreneurs and social media influencers, uses AI to design and launch restaurant brands in less than a minute. The company also has a $425 million partnership with DoorDash to expand campus dining, which operates at 450 colleges and universities and other locations.

Wonder is entering public markets amid competition from established delivery services including DoorDash and Uber Eats. The company has not yet disclosed the offering’s share count or price range.
