Two critical bugs in PHP, the open-source language used by roughly 70% of websites, triggered a scramble to patch systems last week, according to TechCrunch. Some organizations took sites offline while they applied fixes.
Researchers who found the bugs said the cleanup is far from over and warned that artificial intelligence could change how quickly new vulnerabilities are discovered and exploited.
In an episode of TechCrunch’s Equity podcast, Rebecca Bellan spoke with Tomer Schwartz, CTO of Exposure Management & AppSec at Google-owned Wiz. Schwartz took part in the response alongside OpenAI, research group Calif, and the PHP team.
The discussion covered the response effort, how early-stage startups can build security into their products, and why manual patching may not scale. The source identifies the two bugs as critical but does not provide their names or technical details.
