Microsoft is ending Copilot functionality on smart TVs during 2026, according to a report by Windows Central. The report is based on an on-screen notification that appeared on Windows Central reporter Zac Bowden’s webOS-powered LG TV. LG, Samsung and Microsoft have not made an official announcement, according to The Verge.
The notification says Microsoft recently decided to end support for Copilot on all TVs, including the feature available on LG TVs. It does not give an exact end date; discontinuation is scheduled for 2026, with the specific date subject to Microsoft’s timeline.
LG and Samsung announced at CES 2025 that their latest smart TVs would include access to Copilot. On those TVs, the assistant let users chat, ask questions about what was on screen, and request recommendations for TV shows and movies.
Last December, LG drew user criticism after a webOS update added an unremovable Copilot shortcut that opened the assistant’s web app in a browser. LG later allowed users to delete it.
Earlier this year, Microsoft introduced a Copilot “super app” combining chat, agents and coding in one interface. The Verge described the move as part of Microsoft’s effort to position Copilot more as a business and productivity tool and less as a digital companion.
