Withings is charging some new smart scale users $99.99 a year to sync wellness data with Apple Health, according to a report by TechRadar. The change applies to people who signed up on or after October 13, 2026, while existing users are not required to pay.
The feature is now behind the company’s Withings+ subscription. TechRadar reports that Withings cited “privacy measures” and an “AI connector” to explain the change. The report says the syncing uses Apple’s HealthKit framework and does not require server-side processing.
A post on the Withings forum called the change “silent” and “anti-consumer.” Users on the forum and Reddit also criticized the fee and questioned paying a subscription to access their own health data. A Withings representative said Withings+ also includes “An improved Health Assistant” and “Better-priced access to medical services.”
TechRadar reports that the change has upset users, some of whom say they may stop buying or using Withings devices. The company has not been reported to have reversed the policy.
