Ugreen has announced the Magic E Ink Screen Case, a phone case with a color E Ink display built into its back. The product was announced on Ugreen’s Weibo feed and is designed to show photos synced to the case.
The case is available in sizes for iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. It combines phone protection with a display intended for images, rather than ebooks or operating-system widgets.
TechRadar author James Rogerson compared the concept with the Xteink X4 Pro, an e-reader attached to the back of his iPhone. The Xteink device can display ebooks, although it does not show color and is not intended for photos.
Rogerson also questioned how well the Ugreen case will display images. Color and images on e-paper screens can be underwhelming, including on products such as the Kindle Colorsoft. He also cited VidaBay E Ink fridge magnets as an example of image-focused e-paper accessories that, in his view, display most images poorly.
The Ugreen case could still appeal to some people if its price is right, but its price and availability remain unconfirmed. So far, it has only been announced for China.
