TechRadar has published a guide to privacy settings on major social media platforms, describing how users can limit who sees their posts, contacts them or finds their profile. The article is the fourth in the publication’s series for Cybersecurity Awareness Month 2026, which runs throughout October.
Citing guidance from the UK’s National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), the article says platform privacy settings can restrict access to personal information. It notes that details such as birthdays, family photos, pet names and tagged locations may be combined by scammers for phishing, social engineering or identity theft.
The guide recommends enabling Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) on every platform and reviewing connected third-party apps. It suggests revoking access for apps and services that are unused or unfamiliar. TechRadar says users may be able to reduce their exposure to scammers by adjusting these settings, without deleting their accounts or leaving social media.
The article also says its author, Mark Gill, has written about online privacy, VPNs, antivirus software and password managers for TechRadar and other publications.
