A teardown and durability test found that the Trump Mobile T1 is closely based on HTC’s U24 Pro, a mid-range Taiwanese phone from 2024.
An earlier iFixit teardown found the two phones had essentially identical specifications and components. Their dimensions are also the same, although the Trump phone has a different camera housing and a gold finish.
In a new test, JerryRigEverything found that the internal layouts match, down to the number of screws. Swapping the phones’ motherboards also left both devices working. The findings further call into question the Trump phone’s claim of being “proudly American.”
The test found that the phone survived bending in multiple directions, appeared to have effective water resistance, and had a screen with scratch resistance comparable to that of most modern smartphones. The article says that any durability may owe more to designers and engineers in Taiwan than to people in the United States.
The video also takes aim at the Trump administration. One Reddit commenter called it “the most entertaining durability test video I've ever seen.”
