TDM Neo review: a clever headphone-speaker hybrid with weak sound

The TDM Neo turns from on-ear headphones into a portable speaker by twisting its ear cups into the headband. TechRadar reviewer Tom Bedford found the idea appealing, but said the product fell short in both modes.

In headphone mode, Bedford described the sound as acceptable but imprecise. In speaker mode, he reported weak bass and a tinny hiss. He also found the twisting mechanism loose, which could leave the speaker wobbly on a table. The upward-facing USB port may collect dirt, he wrote.

The TDM app includes battery information, a low-latency gaming mode, a device-finding function, battery-saver options and an equalizer with presets and two custom modes. Users can set separate equalizer settings for headphone and speaker modes. However, editing the five-band equalizer and using the device-finding function require an account.

Battery life is a stronger point: TDM lists 16 hours in speaker mode and 200 hours in headphone mode. The Neo launched at $249 / £249. TDM also sells battery replacement kits for $29 / £23 and provides an online replacement guide.

Bedford noted the included carry case and cables, but said the sound and build quality made the price hard to justify. The TDM Neo was unveiled at CES 2026 in January, went on sale in September and began shipping in October. He concluded that it was difficult to recommend as a consumer product.
