Sweden’s Government Offices are blocking ChatGPT and Claude on employees’ work computers, according to Swedish technology publication Techtidningen, which cites Sveriges Radio’s Ekot. The restriction begins today, the report says.
The stated aim is to direct employees toward approved AI tools, including Microsoft Copilot. Digitalisation director Mikael Wettercrantz said that using AI services without an agreement with the Government Offices could have consequences for information security.
Security in Copilot has been tightened following an internal review, according to the report. The block is not total: some employees will continue to have access to ChatGPT and Claude through a dedicated AI platform developed by the Government Offices.
Swedish agencies Skatteverket and the Swedish National Board of Institutional Care have introduced similar blocks. The Swedish Enforcement Authority is also considering restricting access to AI services.
