Sweden’s Post and Telecom Authority (PTS) has opened two new frequency ranges for local 5G and other wireless broadband networks. Applications for local permits in the 3800–3920 MHz and 3990–4130 MHz bands have been accepted since 1 October.
The frequencies are intended for organizations that need robust, high-performance wireless communications. Examples include industries, ports, mines, energy facilities, hospitals and campus areas.
According to PTS, the larger, more harmonized frequency space could improve access to equipment and services and lower costs for organizations building their own networks. Permits can cover both indoor and outdoor use.
PTS reviews each application and considers, among other things, the availability of frequencies in the relevant geographical area.
