Strava updates mapping, route planning and strength training

Strava has updated its mapping and route-planning tools and added new strength-training features, broadening the activities its app supports beyond running and cycling.

According to a Strava press release, route discovery and mapping changes are intended to help people find, plan and follow routes for outdoor activities. The search function is designed to understand prompts in users’ own words. More routes are available, offline maps are easier to use, and route cards have a new design. Strava says paid subscribers will soon be able to hear hands-free, turn-by-turn audio directions. Community tagging of points of interest and route discovery on the web are also planned, but are not yet available.

The routing changes follow an October update that brought coach-designed strength workouts to the app. Subscribers can see animated exercise guidance and track sets and reps as they work out. Free users receive a sample workout. Strava says additional workout series and new ways to track strength workouts are due before the end of 2026.

The company’s announced updates span route planning and strength training. Some features are already available, while others are described by Strava as coming soon or planned for the future.
