Spotify users on iOS 27 can ask Siri to play music without naming the app

Spotify says people using iPhones updated to iOS 27 can ask Siri to play content on Spotify without adding “on Spotify” to their requests.

Siri can route audio requests to a user’s preferred music app. When Spotify is the app they consistently use, requests can go there automatically. Users can ask for a track, album, podcast, audiobook, playlist, or broader selections such as workout music. They can also use voice control to request personalized recommendations, resume podcasts, search their library, create a Prompted Playlist with AI, or play Spotify’s DJ feature.

The feature is available globally on iPhone 15 Pro and later, except in the EU, when Apple Intelligence is enabled in Settings. Spotify says removing the need to name the app makes hands-free listening feel more natural.

The report is by Sarah Perez of TechCrunch. Spotify said the feature was available on Tuesday; the source does not specify a calendar date for that statement.
