Spotifast offers a lighter Spotify experience for Windows, macOS and Linux

Spotifast is an unofficial desktop app that connects to a Spotify account and imports its music library. Its developers say it uses 100–250 MB of memory and loads in well under a second. By comparison, the source says Spotify’s desktop app can use 600 MB to more than 1 GB of RAM.

The app is available for Windows, macOS and Linux. Spotify Premium is required to play music; free accounts can browse and search. Users must approve access to their library and permission to play music on their computer.

Spotifast’s layout resembles Spotify’s desktop app, with Home and Search in the center, the Library and playlists in a left sidebar, and a collapsible Queue on the right. It also offers light and dark modes, custom themes, animated equalizer visualizers, Milkdrop visualizer support and classic Winamp Miniplayer 2 skins.

The app supports audio up to 320 kbps, but not lossless audio. It also lacks Spotify’s social features and AI-powered playlist tools, including Prompted Playlists, Mixed Playlists, Blends and Collaborative Playlists.

Spotifast’s developers say Spotify limits how often apps can request information, and that the shared allowance with other listeners and music players can slow library and search loading. The developers also warn that changes to Spotify’s standard app can temporarily break Spotifast features until it is updated.
