Sony ULT Tower 7 review: powerful bass, with uneven 360-degree sound

TechRadar reviewer Harry Padoan says the Sony ULT Tower 7 delivers deep bass, clear mids and highs, and enough power to fill large open spaces. The review also notes that its 360-degree Party Sound is less convincing from the sides and rear.

The speaker has seven drivers: one 280mm woofer, two mid-range drivers and four tweeters, including two rear-facing tweeters. Its maximum power output is 420W, and the review says its bass reaches 20Hz. Padoan found the sound clear across the frequency range, with particularly strong bass, while vocals, keys, drums and guitars also came through well in his listening tests.

For sound adjustment, the Sony ULT Tower 7 offers ULT 1 and ULT 2 modes, Live and Flat modes, and a custom 10-band equalizer. Its Sound Field Optimization feature adjusts the sound balance based on speaker placement and background noise. The speaker also supports LDAC and has USB-C, 3.5mm and RCA connections, plus two microphone ports. Sony’s Sound Connect app provides karaoke effects and party-pad effects, including a flanger and sampler.

The review describes the design and lighting positively, and lists battery life of up to 30 hours. It calls the speaker heavy and somewhat cumbersome to move. TechRadar positions it between the Tower 5 and ULT Max in Sony’s ULT Tower lineup.
