Some iPhone Duo screens reportedly crack near the hinge

The iPhone Duo is going on sale today, and a small number of units have reportedly developed broken inner screens near the hinge. Posts on Reddit show damage in a similar area, with a bright line or lines appearing across the right side of the display.

One user in Australia said their screen cracked along the hinge after they had owned the phone for about six hours and opened it fewer than 20 times. They described feeling something beneath the screen near the internal hinge while opening the device, then hearing a crack as the screen broke. The user said there were no visible marks on the inner screen or external hinge to suggest something had been caught or damaged.

The user said an Apple Store replaced the phone with a new one on the spot. Other Reddit posts included images of damaged iPhone Duo screens, and one post’s comments included a video showing another affected device.

Apple had not immediately responded to The Verge’s request for comment. The reports are based on user posts and do not establish how widespread the issue is.
