Report: Quanta Halted HP Notebook Production for About a Week

Quanta Computer reportedly stopped producing HP notebooks for about a week in September 2026 after the companies failed to agree on prices, according to reports cited by TechRadar. The Taiwanese contract manufacturer resumed production after HP executives intervened and Quanta accepted a cost adjustment, Taiwan People News reported, citing supply chain sources.

The account has not been officially confirmed. Quanta told Taiwan People News it does not comment on individual customers, while German outlet heise reported that HP had not commented. The reported price change has not been disclosed. DigiTimes reported that HP was forced to raise prices, but the available accounts do not establish the terms of any agreement.

Quanta’s server business has grown alongside AI demand and reportedly accounts for as much as 80% of its revenue. The company also builds laptops for Apple and other customers, which could make a temporary drop in HP production hard to detect in its overall output.

Quanta shipped 4.2 million notebooks in September, up 61.5% from August and down 8.7% from a year earlier, according to figures cited by Anue. Those totals show no obvious September shortfall, but do not rule out a pause: other customers’ production or finished inventory could have offset it.

HP won a $438.7 million price-fixing judgment against Quanta subsidiary Quanta Storage over optical drives before the companies settled confidentially in June 2020. The reported 2026 production halt remains unverified.
