Pro-AI SuperPACs Spend Millions Ahead of U.S. Midterms

New AI-aligned super political action committees are spending millions of dollars to support pro-AI and pro-data-center candidates in this year’s U.S. midterm elections.

Leading The Future has become a major funder of candidates who support AI and data centers. The group also says it is using its funds to oppose candidates who oppose AI. A new organization, Build American AI, is running pro-AI and pro-data-center advertisements in battleground states including Kansas, Ohio, and Wisconsin.

The Republican Party has called on AI firms for help opposing resistance to the technology, amid concerns that opposition could affect the Ohio Senate race. Nvidia has also entered the political funding effort after establishing NVPAC to influence policy in its own favor. The company has a major stake in AI because of its large share of the hardware used in AI data centers.

Data centers have become a contentious political issue as Americans express concerns about AI’s effects on jobs, the environment, and health. Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social that communities rejecting data centers would end up “backwards and poor,” while communities accepting them could gain lower taxes and jobs.
