Private Internet Access adds 15 VPN server locations

Private Internet Access (PIA) has added 15 locations to its VPN network, bringing its total to 170 locations across 104 countries and territories, up from 91 countries. The expansion includes 13 countries and territories not previously served by PIA, among them Cuba, Belarus, Myanmar, Pakistan and the Cayman Islands. It also adds city-level servers in Naples and Tottenham.

PIA says it focused on underserved regions with high demand: the Caribbean, Central Asia and Southeast Asia. The new locations appear automatically in all PIA apps, with no reinstall or plan change required.

Nearly all the additions are virtual locations; Tottenham is the exception. A virtual location assigns an IP address for the selected country while hosting the physical VPN server elsewhere. PIA says it uses virtual locations where local infrastructure or laws do not meet its privacy standards, and marks them in its apps.

PIA now advertises coverage in more countries and territories than Surfshark, which lists more than 4,500 servers in 100 countries. It remains behind ExpressVPN at 113 countries, Proton VPN at 148 and NordVPN at 150. TechRadar reports that NordVPN and Surfshark say capacity, speed and reliability matter more than server counts. PIA's new locations' performance in everyday use remains to be seen.
