Pixel Watch 2 and 3 to Lose Free LTE Safety Signal Access

Google is ending free cellular access to Safety Signal for LTE versions of the Pixel Watch 2 and Pixel Watch 3 after December 12. The service lets features including Emergency SOS, Fall Detection and Safety Check work over cellular networks without a carrier plan.

Google included Safety Signal with a Google Health Premium subscription. Existing users who have free access will receive notifications and an email about the change. A 30-day transition period begins when Google sends the email; Safety Signal will continue to work without a mobile plan during that period.

After the transition and the mid-December cutoff, users will need a mobile plan to use Safety Signal over LTE. The emergency features will remain available on both watches without a mobile plan when the watch is connected to Wi-Fi or paired with a smartphone over Bluetooth.
