Philips 34B2U5900C review: 34-inch 5K2K monitor pairs sharpness with 140W USB-C

The Philips 34B2U5900C is a 34-inch ultrawide monitor with a 5K2K native resolution, USB-C connectivity and 140W power delivery. It also supports 120Hz at native resolution and a 240Hz mode at 2,560 by 1,080.

Its full resolution is 5,120 by 2,160, giving the monitor a sharp image and text rendering. The VA panel has a quoted contrast ratio of 3,000:1. The 5K2K resolution at 120Hz works through DisplayPort, HDMI and USB-C.

• Connectivity includes dual HDMI, DisplayPort, USB-C Power Delivery version 3.1, a USB hub with 3 USB-A and 3 USB-C ports, ethernet and a 3.5mm headphone connection.
• A KVM switch supports sharing the monitor between two machines.
• The monitor has light and proximity sensors, a 360-degree swivelling base, DisplayHDR 400 certification and 95% coverage of the DCI-P3 gamut.

The display uses a 1,500R curve and has a pixel density of 163 DPI. Philips also includes sRGB and Display-P3 presets, plus Calman Ready support for automated calibration. The monitor is less slim and more dated-looking than an OLED model, but its ergonomics, connectivity and high-resolution image make it a strong business-monitor option.
