Carolyn Marvin was arrested in Philadelphia after blocking an Uber delivery robot and refusing to move, according to The Verge.
Police responded and asked Marvin to get out of the robot’s way. When she refused, officers placed her in handcuffs and arrested her. She was charged with disorderly conduct.
Marvin told Philadelphia’s ABC13 that she had been protesting the robots by standing in front of them because she believes they are taking jobs from human delivery workers. The incident was recorded on video and drew media attention.
Delivery robots have become a common sight on downtown Philadelphia streets and have prompted backlash. The Verge reports this was not Marvin’s first encounter with them. Earlier this year, a delivery robot was kicked over in Center City.
The incident comes amid broader concern about the effects of autonomous systems—including robotaxis, delivery robots, and AI agents—on jobs, particularly for lower-skill workers.
