Oracle has reportedly begun laying off an undisclosed number of employees as it restructures parts of the company amid ongoing changes linked to AI. Cybernews reporting attributed the cuts to broader organizational changes and a reassessment of current business needs.
Oracle has not disclosed how many workers may be affected. Independent market researcher Amanda Goodall estimates that between 5,000 and 8,000 employees could be cut. External data cited in an RSS summary suggested Oracle could be preparing to lay off as many as 8,000 workers, but that figure was not confirmed by the company.
An internal email shared by Goodall reportedly told affected employees that their employment would end immediately, with “Today is your last working day” identified as the final day. Those affected were reportedly offered four weeks of base salary, plus one additional week for every year worked at Oracle.
The company already cut around 21,000 jobs, equivalent to 13% of its headcount, during the last financial year. At the same time, Oracle is hiring for data centers, power infrastructure, engineering, AI and ML roles. Goodall said some recent manager and engineer hires came from AWS and Microsoft.
Oracle co-CEO Mike Sicilia recently said that software is not dead and that AI is changing how people interact with it. Oracle shares are down 26% this year to date.
