Nym is preparing a scheduled upgrade to the part of its network that issues anonymous credentials for NymVPN. The company asks users to update the app to its latest release before the change. It has not announced an exact date, and says there is no reason to wait to update.
NymVPN access uses a credential called a zk-nym. Users’ payments are converted into NYM tokens, which are used to issue the credential. Nym says the system keeps payment details separate from network activity. A group of independent operators signs the credentials, with each operator holding only part of the signing key.
The planned upgrade will rotate those signing keys and refresh the operators who run the system. Nym says the change will give its credentials a more robust and decentralized foundation. The app is not expected to look different after the upgrade.
Nym’s roadmap also lists planned features including saved entry and exit server profiles, QR code support for free-pass activation, geo-exclusion for Russia and additional languages. Further plans include decentralizing remaining network controls, combining NymVPN with the Nym wallet, expanding residential IP coverage and adding per-app split tunneling between dVPN and Mixnet modes. Nym’s feature request board lets users vote; faster speeds across all modes are currently marked as in planning.
