TechRadar reports that Nvidia’s RTX Pro 5500 workstation graphics card uses a two-sided “sandwich” layout to fit 84 GB of GDDR7 memory. Nvidia says the Blackwell-based card pairs that memory with a GB202 processor containing 21,760 CUDA cores, the same count as the GeForce RTX 5090.
The board places 14 GDDR7 modules beside the processor on the front and another 14 on the rear, creating 28 memory chips in total. Each runs at roughly 27 Gbps per pin. The unusual 416-bit interface delivers about 1,398 GB/s of bandwidth. That width implies 13 separate 32-bit memory channels, unlike more familiar 256-bit, 384-bit, or 512-bit designs.
Multi-instance partitioning can divide the card into one 84 GB block or two 42 GB segments. Nvidia rates it for 600 W and targets rack-mounted professional workstations rather than consumer desktop gaming. Air-cooled and liquid-cooled versions are available.
The RTX Pro 5500 sits below the RTX Pro 6000, which has 24,064 CUDA cores and 96 GB of memory, but above the RTX Pro 5000, limited to 14,080 CUDA cores and 72 GB. Nvidia has not announced a price or launch date. The card appears aimed at professional workloads that need substantial memory capacity, although the value of that trade-off will depend on the applications used.
