Nvidia Driver 616.56 Reportedly Causes Screen Flicker

Nvidia's Game Ready Driver version 616.56 is reportedly causing screen flickering for some GeForce GPU owners. The issue was spotted by Wccftech and flagged by Renan Maniero on X. Nvidia has said it is testing a fix, according to the GeForce forums.

Reports describe white or black flickering and brief flashes of color corruption. The problem has appeared in games including The Last of Us and Minecraft, as well as on the Windows desktop. Reddit users have also reported flickering during web browser sessions and YouTube videos.

Users say the issue affects modern Nvidia graphics cards as far back as RTX 2000 models. Some gamers have linked the wider driver problems to the launch of the RTX 5000 series, also known as Blackwell, citing earlier issues involving DisplayPort 2.1 with HDR, screen flickering, and black screens.

Reports suggest that the latest problem may mainly affect monitors running in 8-bit mode. Renan Maniero said switching to 10-bit color or enabling Windows Auto Color Management (ACM) may help, while other Reddit users mentioned changing from DisplayPort to HDMI, disabling Multi-Plane Overlay (MPO) in Windows 11, or rolling back driver 616.56. Nvidia is testing a fix, but no release date for a hotfix was provided.
