Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang calls for controls as OpenClaw advances robotics

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said OpenClaw and AI agents could help advance robotics, while calling for safeguards to keep autonomous systems under control.

Speaking at a “Build a claw” event in London, Huang described OpenClaw as “one of the most important models” and a “first credible” agentic harness. He compared the system to a large language model inside an exoskeleton, with motors, wheels and arms serving as tools for an agent.

Huang said autonomous systems should operate with minimal privileges, continuous monitoring and isolation from a computer’s underlying hardware. He pointed to OpenShell, which he described as an isolation layer that acts like an operating system within an operating system. He compared the need for isolation to the early internet, when browsers were not separated from the computers they ran on.

For an autonomous system asked to make an omelet, Huang said, access to a frying pan would be enough; it would not need access to a chainsaw. He said systems should be monitored for activity that violates their policies, with such behavior escalated so people can decide whether to shut a system down.

Huang said security and escalation systems would be needed to deploy autonomous machines and agents safely and realize their potential. His remarks focused on controls for the technology, rather than a specific robotics product or release.
