Elon Musk says Tesla’s planned AI5 and AI6 chips will use less memory than previously expected, while the change will not affect the performance of the company’s Optimus humanoid robot.
According to Wccftech, AI5’s memory specification has been cut by half to 72 GB of LPDDR5. The AI6 chip is now expected to have 144 GB of LPDDR6, a reduction of about one-third, the report says.
Musk said the memory changes would not affect Optimus’s performance. The source describes the revisions as de-specifications intended to help secure volume production amid constrained memory supply. It does not provide further details about the chips or a production timeline.
